The number on the front is not the dose

A capsule labelled 1000 mg fish oil contains 1000 mg of oil. The Omega-3 content inside might be 300 mg or 900 mg. The figure that matters is the combined EPA and DHA, printed on the back.

EPA and DHA do different jobs

EPA is most associated with cardiovascular and inflammatory balance. DHA is a structural fat, concentrated in the brain and the retina. Most general-purpose formulas run higher EPA.

What triple strength means

It refers to Omega-3 concentration, not capsule size. A triple strength softgel delivers roughly three times the EPA and DHA of a standard one, which is the difference between taking one capsule and three.

Purity is not optional

Fish accumulate mercury, PCBs and dioxins. Molecular distillation removes them. If a fish oil does not mention distillation or third-party heavy metal testing, assume it has not been done.

If it repeats on you, it is probably rancid

Fresh, properly distilled fish oil does not taste fishy and does not repeat. That aftertaste is oxidation, and oxidised oil is worse than no oil.
